Ensure all doors are
securely locked.
Let your neighbour know
you will be away and leave a contact number for yourself
or a relative if possible.
Arrange for mail to be
held or re-directed by the post office or collected by
your neighbour.
Ask your neighbour to
watch out for visitors and collect junk mail.
Cancel all deliveries such as newspapers or milk.
Consider installing
automatic timing devices for lights and electrical
appliances such as televisions and radios.
Electrical timers can be
used to turn your radio on to talkback programs during
the day.
Disconnect the electrical
supply on radio-controlled or electronic garage doors
and engage manual lock systems instead.
Advice the local police of
your absence, provide a contact address and telephone
number. Be sure to notify police when you return.
This is especially important if you return home early.
If cars are left home,
secure them and leave keys with a trusted friend or
neighbour.
Engrave or mark valuable

drivers’ licence consider using the number of a close
friend or relative.
Turn down the volume on
the telephone the day you leave.
Arrange for someone to cut
your lawn and water your garden.
If you live in a
Neighbourhood Watch area consider informing the area
coordinator that you will be away.
Consider asking your
neighbour to park a second car in your driveway. |
